Abstraction Audio
Abstraction Audio is a group of audio engineers, music historians, and graphic artists working to revitalize an often-neglected part of the audio marketplace - reissues. We hope to capture the audio and visual aesthetics of various albums by a wide variety of artists.
As the Director of Art & Brand for Abstraction Audio, I am responsible for establishing a cohesive brand identity and maintaining our key touchpoints - our YouTube channel, emails, and of course, creating the art for our various remaster packages.
None of Abstraction Audio's work is sold or otherwise distributed beyond non-monetized YouTube uploads - this is done purely for the love of the craft.
Logo Development
Logo for Abstraction Audio's previous brand identity, TBC, developed by myself. The aim of this logo was to incorporate elements of morse code into an otherwise simple logo, reminiscent of '80s album covers.
Original Abstraction Audio logo concept by Columba (head of Abstraction Audio).
First stage of revision, co-developed by myself and Columba. To bring it in line with our previous identity, the square 'pixels' were made into horizontal lines, and a new palette was selected based on the Trifid Nebula, something we frequently incorporate into our branding.
Final stage of revision, developed by myself. The Trifid Nebula palette, while interesting, proved somewhat hard to read, and cluttered the logo design. The new palette was based off of the TBC logo, reducing visual effects and minimizing visual clutter.
Digital Liner Notes
Recently, I have been working to establish a new format of liner notes for the digital age, with phone screens and computer monitors in mind. When our engineers remastered Radiohead's In Rainbows - a decidedly 21st century album, I took the opportunity to develop the first iteration of these digital liner notes. The table-of-contents features hyperlinks to each song, and even links back to the YouTube channel and uploads where possible.
I maintain no ownership of these lyrics. Many of the design elements within these liner notes were created by Stanley Donwood.
You can view the interactive liner notes here.
Traditional Liner Notes
Despite the push to adapt music to a wholly digital world, however, we firmly believe in the importance and efficacy of traditional, physical liner notes, and continue to develop these for our other remasters. Following is a sample of various packages designed for our work, curated to show the variety of aesthetics I have designed around.
Credits for each album's original content can be seen in their credits pages.
