CSUN's Office of Institutional Research aggregates data across CSUN's campus, examining student demographics in order to identify what is needed for student success. As one of their in-house graphic designers, I take their data-heavy reports and attempt to translate them into visually interesting, digestible papers.
Fall 2022 Snapshot
Each semester, IR releases a 'snapshot' of essential campus data - student count, racial diversity, gender breakdowns, and feeder colleges. This also serves as a good visual intro to IR's visual style and role! While the snapshot remains largely the same from year to year, I worked to ensure that the new snapshot incorporated more elements and colors in line with CSUN's design guidelines. While following the style guide is always important, it is crucial for a project like this, as many prospective students, donors, and feeder schools see this, so it is crucial to reinforce our visual brand.
Summer Enrollment Report
As I was brought on after the sudden departure of the previous second graphic designer, I inherited all of their in-progress reports, including this one. Not only did I have to work in the constrains of the CSUN style guide, but I also had to build off of graphic elements already introduced, such as the pencil bar charts, that the Senior Director already approved.
APIDA Disaggregation Report
The Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Disaggregation Report is one of a series that CSUN's IR has been running to evaluate student needs on a level deeper than racial designation. The series seeks to disaggregate broader racial categories and observe student performance and success on the basis of culture and ethnicity within those racial categories. While the initial sketchbook aesthetic and layout was developed by IR's other designer, Demetri Madrigal, I was brought on to finish the report.
